Suitable for exterior doors and windows
Before you start
– Choose a dry day with temperatures above 10°C and ensure the wood is completely dry.
– Always wear a mask when sanding to avoid inhaling dust.
How to prepare stained or unvarnished wood
– Sand thoroughly with 120 grit sandpaper to remove old finishes, then wipe down with white spirit to clear dust and dirt.
How to prepare new wood for staining
– Lightly sand to smooth the surface, then clean with white spirit to remove dust and grime. If working with veneer, check the supplier’s guidance before preparing.
Application
– Stir the woodstain well to mix the colour pigments.
– Test on a small hidden area to check the colour before full application.
– Apply with a brush in the direction of the grain. Allow 4 hours between coats; the surface will be rainproof in 30 minutes.
– Before the final coat, lightly sand to improve adhesion and achieve a smoother finish.
– The stain will be fully dry after 4 hours. Any splashes on skin can be washed off with warm, soapy water.
Cleaning
– Once dry, maintain your windows and doors as usual by regularly cleaning to remove dirt and grime. Clean brushes with warm, soapy water.
Repair
– If scratches or damage occur, lightly sand the affected area and reapply the stain as needed—there’s no need to strip the entire surface.
