Sika®-4a is a rapid-setting water stopping cement additive designed to seal areas of moderate water infiltration in concrete, rock, and masonry. When mixed with ordinary Portland cement and clean water, it creates a fast-acting plugging and fixing solution that is solvent-free, chloride-free, and easy to prepare on site.

– Used for preliminary waterproofing on wet surfaces or areas with water infiltration
– Suitable prior to applying cementitious render or gunite systems
– Ideal for tunnels, culverts, mine galleries, reservoirs, concrete pipes, and manholes
– Can be used as a rapid-setting mortar for fixing anchors, bolts, and fittings in rock or concrete subject to early loading
LIMITATIONS
– Use only with fresh Ordinary Portland Cement.
– Setting times may vary depending on ambient temperature, water temperature, Sika®-4a temperature, and the type, supplier, or age of the cement used. – Trial mixes are recommended to achieve the desired performance.
– Not suitable for direct contact with potable or drinking water and must be overcoated after application.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SUBSTRATE QUALITY / PRE-TREATMENT
– Ensure all surfaces are clean, roughened, and washed with fresh water to remove dirt, debris, loose particles, and contaminants.
– Remove sharp protrusions and enlarge cracks where necessary to improve bonding.
MIXING
1. Pour the liquid into a clean mixing container.
2. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves, and goggles before handling the product.
3. Mix Sika®-4a with clean water at the required dilution rate based on the application and water pressure.
4. Add cement quickly until the liquid is covered (approximately 3 parts cement to 1 part liquid).
5. Mix rapidly into a smooth paste and use immediately. Only prepare enough material for immediate application.
APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS
1. Shape the mixed paste by hand (using gloves) into a plug and press firmly into the hole until set.
2. Once sealed, overcoat Sika®-4a with a Sika® waterproofing mortar.
3. For medium to heavy water infiltration, direct water through short plastic discharge tubes bonded into drilled holes with Sika®-4a. This helps relieve pressure until the waterproof render has cured.
4. Remove the discharge tubes once infiltration has stopped and plug the holes using a 1:1 diluted mix of Sika®-4a and cement.
5. Do not apply the final render coat until all discharge tubes are removed and water ingress has ceased.
6. In areas with high water pressure, enlarge the prepared area around discharge tubes to provide a greater bonding surface for the Sika®-4a paste.
