APPLICATION
PROPERTIES
- Recommended application temperature range: +5°C to +30°C
- Curing rate: At 23°C @ 50% relative humidity, CrystalSeal cures at a rate of 3-4mm in 24 hours. Note that lower temperatures and drier conditions will result in a slower curing process.
- Shelf life: When stored in its original unopened packaging at temperatures ranging from +5°C to +25°C, CrystalSeal maintains a shelf life of 12 months.
- Skinning time: A skin forms on the surface after approximately 30 minutes.
- Working time: Depending on environmental conditions, you’ll have approximately 30 minutes of working time.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Joint design: We recommend referring to the Technical Information Sheet titled ‘Joint design for cartridge-based products’ before applying CrystalSeal.
- Surface preparation: Ensure that all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from frost, grease, and loose materials. If necessary, apply primer. Install a bond breaker to prevent bonding at the base of the joint where required. Most substrates typically don’t require priming unless testing indicates otherwise. Cut the top of the screw thread off the cartridge and attach the nozzle. Adjust the nozzle diameter to match the joint size. Apply the sealant using either a skeleton or powered gun, ensuring good contact with the surfaces. In cases of deep or parallel joints, consider using backing rod to facilitate proper joint formation.
- Tooling: Immediately after applying the sealant, use appropriate tools within the specified working time for the product. For achieving an especially neat finish, you can use masking tape to cover the face edges of the joint. Remove the tape immediately after tooling has been completed.
- Cleaning: Mechanically remove cured product, while uncured product can be cleaned using white spirit.
LIMITATIONS
• Avoid prolonged exposure to high levels of chlorine or continuous water immersion.
• Refrain from contact with alcohol and other solvent-based cleaners during the curing process.
• Inadvisable for use in glazing applications.
• Not compatible with plastics such as PP, PE, PTFE, or other materials with low surface energy. It is advisable to conduct preliminary tests on plastics.
• Unsuitable for constructing aquariums.
• Not recommended for use with bitumen, marble, or natural stone.
• CrystalSeal should not be used in sanitary joints.
• While CrystalSeal exhibits good UV resistance, it’s best to avoid extreme environmental conditions.
• In wet or extreme conditions, slight variations in CrystalSeal’s color may occur, but this does not impact the product’s strength or durability.
