Hodgson Sealants Mirror Adhesive is ideal for securing mirrors onto vertical, non-porous surfaces such as painted plaster or wood, ceramic tiles, and glass.

APPLICATION

Surface Preparation: Ensure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and free from frost, grease, and loose materials. Apply primer where necessary. For optimal results on fragile and porous surfaces like brickwork, plaster, plywood, and blockwork, it’s advisable to first apply a coat of high-quality emulsion and allow it to dry completely for a minimum of 16 hours before proceeding with adhesive application.

Before applying the adhesive, secure a support for the mirror. Confirm that the substrate is both flat and vertical, making adjustments for any irregular or non-vertical surfaces. Adjust the nozzle to the appropriate diameter for the joint size. Use a skeleton or powered gun for application. Apply the adhesive directly to the back of the mirror in a staggered, separated vertical bead arrangement (refer to FIG 1). For flat substrates, the bead diameter should be approximately 6mm, with a length of 300mm, spaced at 150mm centers, and no closer than 50mm to the mirror’s edge. For irregular surfaces, increase the bead diameter to 8-10mm. This technique facilitates rapid curing and strength development of the adhesive.

Immediately after applying the adhesive, position the mirror to achieve a final adhesive thickness of 1.5mm-2.5mm. Provide support for the weight of the mirror for a duration of 6-10 hours. Note that the final adhesive thickness, lower temperatures, or reduced humidity may prolong the curing process, necessitating an extended support duration.
