Sikaflex® TS Plus is intended for use by experienced professionals only. It is specially designed for sealing domestic sewage systems and is ideal for sealing steel containers, including enameled steel or stainless steel tanks, that are constructed in sections.
Substrate Preparation:
The substrate must be clean, dry, sound, and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust, and loose or friable particles. For optimum adhesion and joint durability, follow these priming and pre-treatment procedures:
- Non-porous substrates:
For surfaces like enameled steel, aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, powder-coated metals, or glazed tiles, slightly roughen the surface with a fine abrasive pad. Clean and pre-treat with Sika® Aktivator-205 applied using a clean cloth. Allow a waiting time of >15 minutes and <6 hours before sealing. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific tank preparation. For other metals like copper, brass, and titanium-zinc, clean and pre-treat using Sika® Aktivator-205 with a clean cloth, followed by Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Wait >30 minutes and <8 hours before sealing. For PVC, clean and pre-treat with Sika® Primer-215 applied with a brush. Allow a waiting time of >30 minutes and <8 hours before sealing.
- Porous substrates:
Concrete, aerated concrete, cement-based renders, mortars, and brick surfaces require priming with Sika® Primer-3 N applied by brush. Allow a waiting time of >30 minutes and <8 hours before sealing.
Note: Adhesion tests on project-specific substrates should be carried out, and procedures agreed upon before full application. Primers and activators are adhesion promoters, not substitutes for proper surface preparation. They improve the long-term adhesion performance of the sealed joint. For additional information, contact Sika Technical Services.
Application Method/Tools:
Strictly adhere to the installation procedures outlined in method statements, application manuals, and working instructions, which must be adjusted based on actual site conditions.
- Masking:
It is recommended to use masking tape for neat or precise joint lines. Remove the tape within the skinning time after finishing the application. - Joint Backing:
After substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth. - Priming:
Prime the joint surfaces as specified in the substrate preparation section. Avoid excessive primer application to prevent puddles at the base of the joint. - Application:
Sikaflex® TS Plus is supplied ready to use. For lap joints (e.g., in enameled steel containers), refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. Prepare the end of the foil pack, insert it into the sealant gun, and fit the nozzle. Extrude Sikaflex® TS Plus into the joint, ensuring full contact with the sides of the joint and avoiding air entrapment. - Finishing:
After application, tool the sealant firmly against the joint sides for adequate adhesion and a smooth finish. Use a compatible tooling agent, such as Sika® Tooling Agent N, or water. Avoid tooling agents containing solvents.
