Hodgson Sealants Heritage Putty is a flexible, paintable putty based on hybrid polymer, designed for cartridge application. It is utilized for installing single glass, insulating glass units (IGUs), and reduced sightline units into frames made of softwood, hardwood, steel, and stone. Primarily used for glazing restoration and replacement in period properties, listed buildings, and conservation areas. For optimal and lasting outcomes, Heritage Putty should be used alongside IGUs that meet the Construction Products Regulations, have undergone independent testing, and comply with BS EN 1279 Parts 1-6 standards. Maintaining the highest quality of glazing methodology and workmanship is crucial to protect IGUs and laminated products from moisture effects. Any glazing methods employed should strictly adhere to the recommendations of the IGU manufacturer, outlined in GGF Advice 50.5 (available upon request).

APPLICATION

Surface Preparation: Prior to application, ensure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from frost, grease, and loose materials. Apply primer to the rebate if necessary. Follow established best practices for glass or IGU installation. For a precise finish, especially in neatness-demanding situations, utilize masking tape to cover the face edges of the joint. Remove the tape immediately after tooling is completed. To prepare the cartridge, cut the top of the screw thread and attach the nozzle. Adjust the nozzle to the appropriate diameter for the joint size. If using putty fronting, the nozzle size should correspond to the distance from the front of the glass to the front of the frame. Apply the product using a skeleton or powered gun into the joint, ensuring optimal contact with the surfaces.

Tooling: Immediately tool the sealant after application, within the specified working time for the product. Consider using a mild soap solution applied with a suitable tooling block, depending on the glazing details.

Cleaning: Remove excess uncured material mechanically and clean surfaces with a soap solution. Prevent complete curing on unwanted areas of the frame. For cured product on glass, use a window scraper for removal.
