FOSROC Flamex S represents a rapidly curing silicone sealant that possesses fire-resistant qualities and exhibits strong bonding capabilities with a broad range of construction substances. When working with Flamex S, it is advised to maintain a minimum joint width of 6 mm. For joints ranging from 6 to 12 mm in width, it is recommended to achieve a seal depth of 10 mm.
The achievement of a particular fire rating is contingent upon the specific configuration of the joint. For comprehensive insights, consult the fire rating table A.
Similarly, the accomplishment of a designated fire rating relies on the specific configurations of penetrations. Refer to fire rating tables B, C, and D for in-depth information.

FOSROC Flamex S is ideal to enhance the fire resistance of curtain walls, building exteriors, expansion joints, and penetration seals, especially in cases where pipes and cables traverse through structures with fire-rated capabilities.
APPLICATION
Preparing the Joint
Make sure that the surfaces of the joint are entirely dry, clean, and devoid of frost or any form of contamination. Eliminate any laitance by employing rigorous wire brushing, grinding, or grit blasting. Remove any instances of rust, scale, or protective lacquers. For any oil or grease residues, it’s essential to utilize Fosroc Equipment Cleaner to ensure thorough cleansing.
Application Process
Flamex S should be accompanied by backing or support, which can be achieved through closed-cell polyethylene foam with a nominal density of 35 kg/m³, a ceramic fiber blanket with a nominal density of 128 kg/m³, or mineral wool with a nominal density of 100 kg/m³. The selection of the appropriate choice depends on the desired level of performance and the specific nature of the joint to be sealed. For comprehensive information, feel free to get in touch with the local Fosroc office.
In cases where closed-cell polyethylene foam is employed, it’s crucial to ascertain that the chosen cord diameter provides the necessary compression and support for the sealant. In construction or contraction joints, it’s recommended to utilize a bond breaker tape.
Apply the sealant into the joint with substantial pressure, ensuring complete contact with the surfaces of the joint.
Before sealing, utilize masking tape to cover the face edges of the joint. This precaution prevents any substrate contamination. Remove the masking tape immediately after the tooling process is completed.
LIMITATIONS
– Avoid applying Flamex S on surfaces with temperatures lower than 5°C.
– Do not utilize Flamex S on substrates that release oils, plasticizers, or solvents.
– Flamex S is not designed to serve as the primary structural sealant in any application.
