Hodgson Sealants Multipurpose Putty is ideal for:

• Intended for bedding and fronting single glass externally in primed softwood and hardwood frames, to be painted afterward.
• Designed for bedding and fronting single glass externally in primed steel frames, to be painted afterward.
• Formulated for bedding and fronting single glass externally in sealed hardwood and concrete, to be painted afterward.
• Exclusively for external putty fronting.

APPLICATION

• Thoroughly clean the rebate, removing any dust, grease, or loose debris. Wipe off any moisture on the timber using a clean paper towel or absorbent material to ensure a dry surface.

• Evaluate the primer’s condition on the frame, focusing on the rebate. Any area that has been missed or significantly weathered should be re-primed before glazing. For new softwood, a single coat of primer to BS5358:1986 will facilitate adequate oil absorption into the frame.

• Apply Timber Sealer to seal the rebates of hardwood frames intended for protection with clear varnish.

• Begin by applying putty to the rebate and inserting setting blocks.

• Position the pane on the setting blocks, ensuring it’s centered, and press it into the putty to achieve a back bedding of 1-2mm consistently. Secure the pane mechanically with metal sprigs or clips. For side-hung opening windows, utilize location blocks to hold the glass securely.

• Apply additional fronting putty and use a knife at an angle to finish about 2mm below the sightline. Brush the putty with a soft brush to seal it to the glass. Knife off the back bedding, sloping it away from the glass.

• Ensure the correct fillet size for optimal setting, with a maximum of 15mm in height and 25mm in width, and a minimum of 8mm in height and 10mm in width.

LIMITATIONS

• Avoid direct application on laminated glass. Kindly reach out to our Technical Department for guidance.

• Refrain from applying on insulated glass units. Kindly reach out to our Technical Department for guidance.

• Inappropriate for bead glazing of single glass. Refer to the Butyl 66 data sheet.

• Avoid using paints containing strong solvents like xylene.

• Not appropriate when the frame/product is intended to be stained or coated with a microporous paint (Refer to Colourglaze putty).

• Confirm compatibility of all components within the glazing system.
