Mapeflex PU 45 FT Fast-curing, paintable polyurethane sealant and adhesive featuring a substantial elasticity modulus suitable for accommodating movements of up to 20%.

It was specifically designed to effectively seal expansion and distribution joints, whether they are in horizontal or vertical surfaces. This versatile sealant is particularly suitable for areas that may occasionally come into contact with hydrocarbons, making it ideal for a range of applications. Additionally, it is highly recommended for creating flexible bonds between various materials commonly employed in the construction industry. Whether used internally or externally, it can serve as an excellent alternative or enhancement to mechanical fasteners.

Utilized as a Sealant:

  • To seal expansion and distribution joints accommodating movements of up to 20% of the joint’s average width in the following settings:
    • Industrial floors exposed to vehicular traffic, including heavy-duty vehicles.
    • Concrete floors within both indoor and outdoor car parks, supermarkets, shopping centers, and warehouses.
    • Ceramic flooring and coatings, even in high-traffic areas like supermarkets and industrial environments with forklift usage.
    • Concrete walls and general vertical structures, especially when a thixotropic product is necessary.
    • Existing concrete floors intended for coverage with a Mapefloor System.
  • For sealing cracks.
  • Sealing pipe systems for air conditioning and electrical cables.
  • Sealing sheet steel components like flashing and guttering.
  • Sealing various fillet joints.

Utilized as an adhesive for thicknesses up to 3 mm:

Thanks to its strong bonding characteristics and quick curing, Mapeflex PU 45 FT is well-suited for bonding various materials to a wide range of substrates. Mapeflex PU 45 FT can be employed to bond a variety of construction materials, including but not limited to cement and cement-based products, cellular concrete, bricks, steel, copper, aluminum, pre-painted surfaces, glass, mirrors, gypsum, wood and wood-based materials, ceramics, clinker, insulating materials, and plastics such as PVC, acrylic glass, and fiberglass. When used for creating flexible bonds, Mapeflex PU 45 FT serves as a versatile solution for construction and finishing work in projects involving:

  • Tinwork and flashing.
  • Skirting boards, cable beads, beading rods, and corner guards.
  • Pre-formed decorative elements.
  • Bathroom fixtures.
  • Window sills.
  • Roofing tiles, concave roofing tiles, covering panels, and insulation panels.

Mapeflex PU 45 FT demonstrates excellent resistance to movements during its operational use, accommodating shifts of up to 20% relative to the average width of the sealed joint. If the expected movements exceed this threshold, it is advisable to opt for Mapeflex PU40, a polyurethane sealant characterized by its low modulus of elasticity.

To ensure a neat and tidy application that prevents sealant spillage and achieves an appealing finish, our recommendation is to apply masking tape along the edges of the joints. This tape should be promptly removed immediately after the sealant has been smoothed into place.

Mapeflex PU 45 FT exhibits strong bonding capabilities, even without the necessity of using a primer, provided that the substrate is solid, free from dust, and thoroughly clean and dry. In cases where absorbent surfaces may lack solidity, possess a slightly powdery texture, or endure high mechanical stresses or extended contact with liquids, it is advisable to employ Primer A.

For non-absorbent surfaces such as iron, steel, aluminum, copper, ceramic, klinker, glass, and zinc-plated sheeting, Mapeflex PU 45 FT establishes a reliable bond when applied to clean surfaces treated with an appropriate degreasing agent. The utilization of Primer M on these surfaces can enhance long-term adhesion.

When working with plastics, it can be beneficial to roughen the surface using fine sandpaper and subsequently apply a coat of Primer P, a specialized product tailored for plastic materials.

Primer A Application Utilize a brush to apply a thin, uniform layer of Primer A, a one-component polyurethane primer designed for absorbent surfaces, to the required areas. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly before proceeding with sealant application (typically around 2 hours at a temperature of approximately +23°C and 50% relative humidity).

Primer M Application Apply an even coat of Primer M to the necessary areas using a brush. Primer M is a single-component, solvent-free polyurethane primer tailored for non-absorbent surfaces, particularly along the edges of the joint. Ensure the subsequent sealant application only occurs once the primer has lost its tackiness (typically after about 40 minutes at a temperature of approximately +23°C and 50% relative humidity).

Primer P Application Prepare the substrate surface by roughening it, removing any loose or uneven areas. Apply an even layer of Primer P, a one-component solvent-based primer. Allow it to dry thoroughly (approximately 20 minutes at a temperature of approximately +23°C) before proceeding to extrude the sealant.

Preparation and Application of Mapeflex PU 45 FT as a Sealant

For a 300 ml cartridge:

  1. Place the cartridge into the designated extrusion gun.
  2. Create an opening in the cartridge’s tip.
  3. Attach the extrusion nozzle and trim it at a 45° angle, depending on the desired joint width.
  4. Gently and continuously dispense the product into the joint. Be cautious to prevent air from being trapped within the joint.

For a 600 ml cartridge:

  1. Insert the cartridge into the appropriate extrusion gun.
  2. Remove the cartridge tip.
  3. Cut the extrusion nozzle at a 45° angle, depending on the desired joint width.
  4. Dispense the product smoothly and continuously into the joint, ensuring no air gets trapped.

Immediately after applying the sealant, use a tool of suitable size and shape to smooth the surface while keeping it moist with either Mapei Easy Smooth solution or a mixture of soap and water.

Preparation and Application of Mapeflex PU 45 FT as a Flexible Adhesive

When adhering sections with limited surface area or weight:

  • Dispense single drops of the product onto the back of the section.
  • Press the section firmly onto the substrate to evenly spread the adhesive.

For sections with a larger surface area:

  • Extrude a series of vertical, parallel beads approximately 15 cm apart.
  • Press the section onto these beads to ensure uniform adhesive distribution.

If necessary, adjustments to the bonded element can be made within about 6 minutes at a temperature of +23°C. In cases involving heavy loads or challenging installation conditions, additional support like clamps or props may be required for the initial 24 hours at +23°C.

Please avoid applying layers of the product that are more than 3 mm thick during bonding.
