Bond It Roof Seal Liquid Membranel is a hybrid technology product designed for waterproofing and protecting various surfaces, particularly roofs, against climatic variations, UV radiation, and chemical exposure. This liquid membrane demonstrates several advantageous properties:

  1. High Elasticity: Seal It Liquid Membrane possesses a high degree of elasticity, enabling it to accommodate structural movements and changes in the substrate caused by temperature fluctuations and other external factors.
  2. Temperature Stability: The product maintains its flexibility and performance even under extreme temperature conditions. It remains pliable and functional at temperatures ranging from -50 degrees Celsius to +120 degrees Celsius.
  3. UV Radiation Resistance: Seal It Liquid Membrane is resilient to the degrading effects of UV radiation from the sun, which can cause materials to deteriorate over time.
  4. Chemical Attack Resistance: The membrane shows a strong resistance to external chemical exposure, safeguarding the underlying surface from potential damage caused by various chemicals.
  5. Ageing and Discoloration Resistance: Seal It Liquid Membrane is designed to resist ageing and discoloration, maintaining its appearance and performance over an extended period.
  6. Thermal Properties: In thermal performance tests, the membrane exhibits exceptional properties, outperforming traditional materials such as black bitumen by 36% when applied at just 0.8mm thickness. This could contribute to improved insulation and energy efficiency for the covered surfaces.
  7. Energy Cost Reduction: The product is reported to be 11.3% more efficient than solar reflective paint, which implies that it can contribute to reducing energy costs by helping to regulate temperature and improve energy efficiency.

Roof Seal Liquid Membranel is used in combination with other components, including a primer (necessary when applying over certain existing substrates), accelerator, and reinforcing mat where required. This combination of products creates a comprehensive system that offers an alternative to traditional bitumen-based and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) waterproofing membranes. It is suitable for application on various types of roofs and can be used as a protective and waterproofing solution for existing roof substrates.

This technology and its properties make Roof Seal Liquid Membranel a versatile and advanced option for achieving effective waterproofing, protection, and energy efficiency for a range of surfaces, particularly roofs, in various climatic conditions.

APPLICATION

  1. Preparation: Remove all excess packaging materials from inside the tin, including desiccant and protective films. It’s advisable to stir the coating thoroughly before use to ensure uniform consistency.
  2. Immediate Application: Once the container is opened and the product is exposed to the air, it will begin to cure. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the product immediately after opening to prevent premature curing.
  3. Full Tub Usage: It is recommended to use the entire contents of the tub during installation. Leaving the product exposed to air in the tin for an extended period could result in skinning over and lumpiness.
  4. Application Tools: Use various application tools depending on the surface and desired outcome. Recommended tools include brushes (longer bristle brushes for rough substrates), short pile rollers, trowels, spatulas, squeegees, or industrial spray equipment.
  5. Coating Application: Apply the coating evenly to the surface at a rate of approximately 1 square meter per 1 liter at a thickness of 1mm. Adjust the application rate based on the porosity and roughness of the substrate. Ensure a minimum thickness of 1mm. Some surfaces may require two coats. Apply the second coat 8-24 hours after the first coat, when the first coat is sufficiently dry to walk on.
  6. Flashing or Edging: It is recommended to extend the coating beyond the substrate to create a self-terminating flashing. Alternatively, you can use SEAL IT CRACKS & EDGING SEALER to seal edges.
  7. Caution: Be cautious when applying the coating in windy conditions, especially when using the spray method. Avoid contact with surfaces that do not require coating.
  8. Cleanup: If unwanted contact occurs on surfaces, the product can be removed before it cures using acetone, Bond It WHITE SPIRIT, or Bond It MULTI-WIPES.
  9. Compatibility Test: Before applying the product to the entire surface, it is recommended to treat a small discreet area (approximately 1 square meter) with the ROOF SEAL MEMBRANE. This helps identify any adverse reactions between the product and the substrate.

LIMITATIONS

  1. Temperature Considerations: Do not use the product when temperatures are expected to be less than 5 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, unless you are using it in conjunction with the SEAL IT ACCELERATOR. Refer to the relevant instructions for proper usage.
  2. Surface Compatibility: The product is not suitable for use on low surface energy plastics such as PE (Polyethylene), PP (Polypropylene), and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). Test adhesion on EPDM sheets in a small area before proceeding. Avoid using the product on surfaces that release oils or plasticizers.
  3. Damp Substrates: Applying the MEMBRANE onto damp substrates that cannot dry out from underneath can lead to blistering. Ensure that the substrate is dry before application.
  4. Minimum Thickness: It’s crucial to achieve the recommended minimum thickness during application. Failure to do so can result in cracks and structural issues in the coating.
  5. Walking on Roof Surfaces: The restored roof surfaces should only be walked on for maintenance purposes. This product is not designed as a wearing surface and is not anti-slip.
  6. Pedestrian Walkways and Decks: SEAL IT LIQUID MEMBRANE is not suitable for use as a pedestrian walkway, deck, or frequently trafficked area. If the area will have light and occasional foot traffic, you can add small chip aggregate to the coating to provide limited slip resistance.
  7. Atmospheric Moisture: The product may not cure properly in areas with low atmospheric moisture. Ensure proper environmental conditions for successful curing.
  8. Priming Bitumens and Roof Felts: It’s essential to thoroughly and completely prime bitumens, roof felts, and similar surfaces before applying the ROOF SEAL MEMBRANE. Failure to do so can lead to product failure.
