Mapei Mapeproof Swell is a single component hydro-expansive paste supplied in cartridges, used to waterproof and seal cracks in concrete.

It represents a singular hydrophilic paste, designed for use in repair and waterproofing endeavors. It possesses the versatility to be applied to surfaces that are either damp or irregular, and it remains effective across a wide range of temperatures while accommodating various types of infiltrating or seeping water. Upon contact with water, Mapeproof Swell undergoes expansion, displaying exceptional resistance to substantial hydrostatic pressure when suitably confined.

This remarkable product exhibits excellent bonding capabilities with slightly damp surfaces, provided they meet the criteria of being clean and structurally sound.

We have a number of tools on our website that would assist with the application of this product. We would recommend using a PC Cox Skeleton Gun to apply & a Bond-it Tooling Kit to aid in providing a professional finish.

Mapeproof Swell Is ideal for the following:

  1. Ensuring a watertight seal for pipe penetrations through concrete.
  2. Sealing spacers within formwork.
  3. Addressing cold joints in reinforced concrete structures.
  4. Providing a reliable seal for areas where water ingress occurs through cracks in reinforced concrete structures.
  5. Bonding different types of joints securely.
  6. Sealing fixtures such as lights and drainage outlets in swimming pools and tanks.
  7. Enhancing waterproofing by sealing construction joints in concrete walls.

APPLICATION

  1. Begin by thoroughly cleaning the surface, removing all dust and loose particles, as well as any substances that could compromise the adhesion of Mapeproof Swell. The substrate can be slightly damp, but there should be no standing water on the surface.
  2. Adjust the size of the extruded bead of Mapeproof Swell by cutting the nozzle tip to achieve the desired diameter. Typically, the bead size ranges from 6 to 13 mm. Cutting the tip at the first line will yield this size. A single cartridge can produce approximately 3 meters of bead with a diameter ranging from 6 to 13 mm.
  3. Apply the bead of Mapeproof Swell continuously and evenly. Mapeproof Swell expands in all three directions, following the path of least resistance. To ensure its proper functioning, it must be enclosed or injected into a crack or joint. This product is not suitable for surface-only application and should always be confined.
  4. Allow the product to set completely before pouring concrete over it.
  5. If you’re applying Mapeproof Swell to steel pipe-work, ensure that all traces of oil and grease used for joint lubrication are removed using ethanol.
  6. When sealing cracked concrete, use appropriate mechanical means to remove the sides of the cracks or construction joints to a depth of at least 6 cm. After cleaning away dust and debris, apply Mapeproof Swell and delimit its boundaries using a suitable product from the Mapegrout line. If water is seeping through, block the flow with Lamposilex and then apply Mapeproof Swell on both sides, ensuring a boundary of at least 5 cm.
  7. Mapeproof Swell is available in cartridges containing 320 ml of the product. To apply it, cut the nozzle tip according to the desired bead size, pierce the membrane under the nozzle, insert the cartridge into an extrusion gun, and apply the product directly onto the concrete or element requiring sealing.
