Silancolor Basecoat is a coloured, silicone resin-based paint for water dispersion, with micro-granular quartz and selected charges. It is used to even out the absorption of the substrate and promote bonding of multiple coats of paint or layered finishing materials from the Silancolor range.

Silancolor Basecoat works in synergy with coloured finishes to increase the duration of the protective finish and increase the water repellence of Silancolor finishing systems.

Surfaces treated with this have a uniformly rough finish which makes it easier to apply multiple finishing materials. Application with a trowel is advised as this results in a more even distribution of the finishing material.

Silancolor Basecoat is available in a wide range of colours, created using the ColorMap automatic colouring system.

Silancolor Basecoat is available in 20 kg plastic drums.

This product can be stored for 24 months if kept in a dry place away from sources of heat. Ensure a temperature of between +5°C and +30°C. Protect from freezing weather.

Silancolor Basecoat is ideal for:

  • Base filling layer, with quartz granules, for new, well-cured render before applying layered finishing materials.
  • Base evening and filling layer for old render, if not excessively deteriorated or crumbly, before applying layered finishing materials.
  • Base filling layer for de-humidifying render before applying layered finishing materials.
  • Base layer on old paintwork, including paintwork, which is slightly flaky, before applying layered finishing materials.
  • Base layer with the same colour as the final layer, to help covering of the final layer of paint or layered finishing material in bright, lively colours, which are clean and only offer partial covering.

APPLICATION

Silancolor Basecoat should me mixed well before use. Apply using conventional techniques such as with a brush, roller or by spray (air mix). A single coat is usually sufficient to prepare the surface, however if the substrate is particularly uneven, a second coat may be required.

Protect from rain for at least 12-24 hours.

Silancolor Basecoat may be painted over after 12-24 hours.

 LIMITATIONS

  • Do not use on metal surfaces.
  • Do not apply if the temperature is lower than +5°C or higher than +35°C.
  • Do not apply if the humidity is higher than 85%.
  • Do not apply on damp or partially cured substrates.
  • Do not apply if rain is forecast, in windy weather or under direct sunlight.
  • Silancolor Basecoat is not a consolidator and should never be applied on detached surfaces that are not firmly anchored to the substrate.
  • Please refer to the “Safety instructions for preparation and application” section.
