Hodgson Sealants Metal Casement Putty is ideal for:

• Designed for bedding and exterior installation of single glass into primed steel and timber frames, with plans for subsequent painting.
• Formulated for bedding and exterior fronting of single glass in sealed hardwood and concrete frames, intended for future painting.
• Tailored for the external application of putty as a fronting material.

APPLICATION

• Thoroughly clean the rebate by removing any dust, grease, or loose debris. Ensure that the timber is dry by wiping off any moisture with a clean paper towel or absorbent material.

• Inspect the primer’s condition on the frame, paying close attention to the rebate. If any section is inadequately primed or significantly weathered, reapply primer before proceeding with glazing. Applying a single coat of BS5358:1986-compliant primer on new softwood will enable adequate oil absorption into the frame.

• Begin by applying putty to the rebate and placing setting blocks.

• Position the pane on the setting blocks, ensuring it is centered, and press it into the putty to achieve a back bedding of 1 – 2mm consistently. Secure the pane mechanically using metal sprigs or clips.

• Use location blocks, especially in side-hung opening windows, to hold the glass securely in its place.

• Apply additional fronting putty, using a knife at an angle and finishing approximately 2 mm below the sightline. Seal the putty to the glass by brushing it gently with a soft brush. Knife off the back bedding, sloping it away from the glass.

• Maintain the correct fillet size for optimal setting: a maximum of 15mm in height and 25mm in width, and a minimum of 8mm in height and 10mm in width.

LIMITATION

• Avoid direct usage on laminated glass; reach out to our Technical Department for guidance.

• Refrain from using paints containing potent solvents like xylene.

• Contact our Technical Department before using on insulated glass units.

• Incompatible when the frame/product will undergo staining or coating with a microporous paint (refer to Colourglaze putty).

• Not intended for bead glazing of single glass; consult the Butyl 66 data sheet.

• Verify compatibility of all components within the glazing system.
